After a year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Boca Raton Orchid Society is bringing back its annual Valentine’s Orchid Show and Sale from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 12 and 13 at Safe Schools Institute, 1790 Spanish River Blvd., in Boca Raton.
The last Valentine’s Orchid Show and Sale took place before the pandemic started in 2020 and was unable to return in 2021 with CDC guidelines in place.
Entry for the show is $5 (cash only).
“No one had [orchid] shows in 2021,” Boca Raton Orchid Society President Kathy Kersey said. “Ours was the very last orchid show in 2020. Right after that [show] is when the pandemic hit and all the shows were canceled. This is our first show since February 2020, so it’s really exciting that people can come to orchid shows again.”
The show will include 12 orchid vendors selling plants acclimated to Florida weather, offering an alternative to a traditional bouquet of flowers for Valentine’s Day.
“Everybody can buy living plants instead of a bouquet of flowers from the forest,” Kersey said. “They can come to our show and buy a beautiful plant that is going to last.”
Other vendors will offer items such as scented candles, scarves, gifts from Africa, artwork, orchid pots and supplies. The show will also be hosting two orchid lectures, with two shows scheduled both Saturday and Sunday.
Attendees can purchase raffle tickets during the events for a chance to win orchids, orchid-themed accessories, exotic plants, novelty hybrids and orchid supplies.
The Valentine’s Orchid Show and Sale, which is the nonprofit’s only fundraiser, supports the club’s educational orchid-related initiatives.
