The Delray Rocks rallied from an early 14-0 deficit to record a 26-14 win over visiting Plantation at Hilltopper Stadium.
Delray Rocks coach Adrian Graham said it was a good start, especially coming on the heels of a 38-0 win over the Coral Springs Chargers on the road the week before. It was a solid win for the Rocks, considering 15 of the 35-player roster are first-year players.
“It was great for my team, especially for a group of kids where about half of them have not played football before,” Graham said. “They showed a lot of resilience, confidence, so it was a great win for them.
“It’s nice to be able to go out against other kids and not go against each other every day,” he said. “They showed great toughness and showed what they are capable of.”
Trailing 14-0 late in the first half, Delray Rocks’ Rodney Whyte returned a kickoff 75 yards to close the lead to 14-6 at halftime.
The second half belonged to the Rocks as quarterback Joseph Allen scored on a 40-yard scamper, Tyler Pierre-Louis scored on a 3-yard plunge and Whyte added a 20-yard scoring run. Chance Humphrey converted two 2-point conversion passes to Kendrick Pierre and Elijah Ellis, respectively.
Graham knows a lot about the Rocks as he grew up playing in the program from 1994-98 and graduated from Atlantic High School in 2003. He’s coached in the Rocks program for the past eight seasons.
