The occasions for guilt-free overindulgence are far and few between, but surely one of them is “Eat Your Heart Out,” the lip-smacking culinary extravaganza with a heart of its own.
The eighth-annual event will return to The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale from 6-8:30 p.m. Oct. 7, serving up a bounty of gourmet bites and libations from some of the area’s most enticing restaurants. There will also be celebrity servers, live entertainment and a silent auction.
Here’s where the guilt-free part comes in: It’s all to benefit the Heart Gallery of Broward County, a nonprofit organization that works closely with ChildNet and local foster-care providers to find loving families for the hardest-to-place foster children. Launched in 2007, Broward’s Heart Gallery is among 100-plus independent heart galleries across the country. “Eat Your Heart Out” is its biggest fundraiser.
As part of the proceedings, the Moss Foundation will be honored as Child Advocates of the Year. Created by Moss & Associates, a Fort Lauderdale-based construction firm, the nonprofit assists other charitable organizations throughout the country. Locally, it has helped Arc Broward, Broward Public Library Foundation, HANDY, Jack & Jill Children’s Center and others.
Arlene Borenstein, of the South Florida Sun Sentinel’s “Let’s Go South Florida” video show, will serve as host of the “fun-raiser.” Participating restaurants are Andy’s Live Fire Grill + Bar, Anthony’s Runway 84, Boatyard, The Capital Grille, Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants, Culinary Republic, Dunkin’, Eddie V’s Prime Seafood, Lips Fort Lauderdale, Funky Buddha Brewery, Moksha Indian Brasserie, Press & Grind Juicery and Coffee Bar, Riverside Market and Cafe, Seasons 52, Sicilian Oven, Sweeter Days Bake Shop, Takato, Tarpon River Brewing, and Tulio’s Tacos and Tequila Bar.
Among the sponsors are Advanced Roofing, Band of Brothers Ministry, Burdette Beckmann Inc., The Galleria, GPR | Goodman Public Relations, Holland & Knight, Hudson Family Foundation, KO Lawyers, Lago Mar Beach Resort & Club, Leo Goodwin Foundation, Moss Foundation, OutClique magazine, Related Group, Shady Vodka, Toothaker.org, Walter Duke + Partners and City & Shore magazine.
