Florida Atlantic University graduate Sarah Huang was recently selected as the poster artist for the 2022 Delray Affair April 8 to 10.

Filled with vibrant colors, Huang’s winning design captures downtown Delray’s iconic Pineapple Grove, highlighted by a unique perspective of an individual leaving through the archway. With the Delray Affair entering its 60th year, Huang wanted to feature a landmark that makes Delray Beach standout as well as one that has special meaning to her.

Along with including the Pineapple Grove archway, Huang added artist Anita Lovitt’s “Dancing Pineapple” mural to symbolize how the city incorporates art throughout the area.

Huang, a resident artist at the Arts Warehouse in Delray Beach, had her design picked among numerous anonymous entries.

“When I got the word I was asked to submit, I was like ‘let me think about the things I love about Delray,’” Huang said. “I was thinking about a lot of the time that I spent on the Ave. I actually used to be the director of operations at Arts Garage and then I transitioned into doing full-time art back in July. I had worked at Arts Garage and been on the Ave in Pineapple Grove for about three years, and now I’m a resident at Arts Warehouse.

“So the city of Delray — specifically Pineapple Grove — has become a real home base for everything that I do,” Huang said. “When I was thinking about the design, I was like ‘What’s iconic Delray? What’s Delray to me? What’s home?’ — and Pineapple Grove came to light.”

Huang, who earned her bachelor’s in painting at FAU in 2015, has exhibited her work internationally and nationally for almost a decade.

She most recently had art displayed at The Box Gallery, 1310 Gallery – Sailboat Bend, Ali Cultural Arts, The Pompano Beach Cultural Center, Coral Springs Museum of Art and Arts Garage.

The Delray Affair, which will include over 400 artists, crafters and food vendors from across the nation, will span across 12 city blocks in downtown Delray Beach on Atlantic Avenue.

Admission is free. Delray Affair will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. April 8 and 9 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 10.
