DELRAY BEACH — The drawbridge on George Bush Boulevard in Delray Beach is locked in an open position, making road traffic impossible from the mainland over the Intracoastal to the beach.
A malfunction occurred about 9:30 p.m. Thursday, when the bridge opened for boat traffic and then became stuck. The bridge is located between Southeast 15th Street and Atlantic Avenue.
The repair to a broken shaft by the Palm Beach County Road and Bridge department will keep the crossing closed for an undetermined length of time. Traffic will be detoured via Northeast Fifth Avenue/Northeast Sixth Avenue, Atlantic Avenue and North Ocean Boulevard.
