Police say two teenagers and two adults are dead after a driver plowed into a second car at a Palm Beach Gardens intersection Friday afternoon.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the 17-year-old driver who caused the crash is listed in critical condition.
The police report states a 2019 Nissan Rogue with three teenagers aboard — two in the front, one in the rear — was speeding northbound “in a reckless manner” at 4:09 p.m. on Beeline Highway near the intersection of PGA Boulevard when the driver ran a red light.
The Rogue smashed head-on into the left side of a 2010 Nissan Xterra that was turning south from PGA Boulevard onto the Beeline. The Xterra spun out of control clockwise, flipped over and ejected its driver, Elizabeth Anderson, into a grass median. Both Anderson and her passenger, George Nienhouse, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their ages were not provided.
The report states that officer who arrived on scene noted that the 17-year-old driver of the Rogue, Christopher Garrett Jr., had been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. His front-seat passenger, Jay’Oni Leonard, 14, was also pronounced dead at the scene.
Garrett Jr. and his rear-seat passenger, Alexia Simpson, 17, were rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where Simpson was pronounced dead.
