Delray Beach’s Lexi Thompson was the highest local finisher in the recent Gainbridge LPGA at Boca Rio in Boca Raton as she tied for sixth with a 7-under par score of 281.
The Gainbridge event featured 16 of the top 25 players in the world, including World No. 1 Nelly Korda. It was the first full-field event for the 2022 LPGA Tour season, with a field of 120 players competing for a share of a $2 million purse.
Lydia Ko needed a par save from the greenside bunker at the tough 18th hole to pick up a one-shot victory over Danielle Kang to record the 17th victory of her career and finished with a 14-under 274. Ko, 24, carded a final-round 69, while Kang, 29, shot 68 and was just left on a downhill 20-footer on the final green that would have forced extra holes.
Jaye Marie Green (Jupiter), Nanna Koerstz Madsen (Boca Raton) and Jessica Korda (Jupiter) were South Florida residents competing in the championship.
