Literacy Links Golf Tournament set to return in June

The Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County is making preparations for its fifth annual Literacy Links Golf Tournament at the Palm Beach Par 3 Golf Course on June 11.

The nonprofit organization in Boynton Beach will run the charity fundraiser to assist in providing adults and children in need with links to literacy programs. The charity fundraiser was moved to June because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We look forward to getting back on track with our event calendar next year and having this popular tournament in spring again,” said Kristin Calder, CEO of the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County, which is based in Boynton Beach. “But our literacy programs still need help now.”

The participants can check in for the scramble format tournament at 7:30 a.m. and the shotgun start will begin at 8:30 a.m. The charity fundraiser will also feature lunch, awards and a silent auction at Al Fresco Restaurant in the Palm Beach Par 3 clubhouse.

“We hope golfers throughout the county will join us for a fun round of golf and great food,” Calder said. “We’ll be following CDC social-distancing guidelines for the fundraiser.”

The cost for registration for a foursome group is $700, which also includes lunch. Individuals can also sign up and play for $200. The fundraiser also welcomes interested sponsors to participate. The different levels include the presenting sponsor ($10,000), gold ($5,000), silver ($3,000), bronze ($1,000) and tee sign ($300).

Literacy Links Golf Tournament chairwoman Nancy Vera, of Delray Beach, has worked with other members of the nonprofit organization to organize the fundraiser.

The previous Literacy Links Golf Tournament at the Palm Beach Par 3 Golf Course attracted 50 participants and raised nearly $35,000.

The Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County was recognized as the 2020 Health and Human Services Organization of the Year by the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches. It also is the recipient of the 4-star Charity Navigator rating for 12 consecutive years. It provides services to over 29,000 adults, children and families each year to promote literacy to assist them to succeed in school and life.
