BOCA RATON — A man is in custody after he shot a gun at police from an apartment balcony in Boca Raton, police said.
No injuries were reported, according to Boca Raton Police spokeswoman Jessica Desir.
Police received a call around 1:15 p.m. that a man, later identified as Kyle Raymond, 25, was acting “unstable” in a vehicle in the parking lot of the Allure Apartments at 6780 Congress Avenue, police said in a statement Sunday night. The caller told police they saw a handgun on or near the man.
Soon after, the caller told police they thought they heard a gunshot but didn’t know where it came from. When officers arrived, gunfire erupted, the statement said.
Residents on social media reported hearing “tons of shots.” Others later saw a huge police presence, including an armored police truck in the area.
Nearby resident Adrian Gallo, who lives in a separate building in the Allure Apartments, was on his balcony when he heard the gunfire. He said he heard what sounded like two to three shots, then another three to four shots after police arrived a few minutes later.
“The shots were loud and nearby but you always first assume it’s a firework or something, especially because you don’t expect to hear gun shots in this neighborhood,” Gallo said. “But after the second round of shots, it was clear the sounds were shots from a gun.

“You certainly don’t expect any shootings like this in Boca but today, nothing surprises me,” Gallo continued. “I just hope the young man gets the help he needs and I’m thankful no one was injured in the altercation.”
Officers took cover behind a marked police car, which was hit by two bullets, officials said. They zeroed in on an apartment and SWAT and negotiation teams were called to the scene.
The shooting stopped and negotiations ensued.
Raymond eventually came out and was arrested. It was not immediately clear if he lived at the apartment he allegedly shot from.
