Man struck and killed on Florida’s Turnpike after he steps out of truck to check a flat tire

A 63-year-old man from the town of Palm Beach was killed after he pulled over on to the shoulder of the road and stepped out of the landscaping truck he was driving on Florida’s Turnpike Tuesday afternoon.

He exited to check a flat tire south of Okeechobee Boulevard and was fatally struck moments later by a passing car, according to Florida Highway Patrol Lt. Yanko Reyes.

A passenger in the truck slept through the crash, Reyes said, and troopers have not yet been able to find the driver of the car who hit the pedestrian.

FHP had not released the 63-year-old’s name as of Tuesday night and had no description of the car that hit him. They are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact FHP at *347 or crimestopperspbc.org.

This is a developing story, so check back for updates.
