BOYNTON BEACH — A man who was allegedly trying to defend his pregnant sister shot another man Monday morning in Boynton Beach, authorities said.
Darrion Todd, 20, faces charges of aggravated battery with a firearm for allegedly shooting the unidentified man after he allegedly punched Todd’s pregnant sister in the stomach.
Authorities did not release the name of Todd’s sister or the man he’s accused of shooting. The man went to Delray Medical Center to have surgery on the gunshot wound in his abdomen, according to Todd’s arrest affidavit. He is in stable condition and is expected to survive, the affidavit says.
The couple was arguing just before 7 a.m. outside the apartment complex at 401 S. Seacrest Blvd. Boynton Beach Police responded to a 911 call regarding a shooting and arrived to find the injured man shot in his abdomen, the affidavit says. He told officers his “baby-momma’s brother shot him,” the affidavit says.
The man has two children with Todd’s sister, who is about five months pregnant with a third, the affidavit says. They were arguing when the man allegedly punched her in the stomach, the affidavit says.
The woman’s mother was outside and witnessed the man punch her daughter, the affidavit says. She told officers she went inside and told Todd the man was hitting his sister, which is when he grabbed his gun and went outside, started arguing with the man and shot him in the abdomen, the affidavit says.
Officers took Todd into custody. Back at the police station, he confirmed his mother’s account of the incident and told officers the man is not allowed inside their apartment because of his “violent outbursts” and “combative nature,” the affidavit says. Todd told officers the man lives out of his car.
Detectives will be filing charges against him for aggravated battery on a pregnant person, according to police spokeswoman Stephanie Slater.
