With a second consecutive mini-season victory, the Mizner Country Club’s Women’s Tennis Team will now move up to the 2A Division in the South Palm Beach County Women’s Tennis Association.
The Delray Beach club won both the mini-seasons, the second season by 21 points over runner-up Seven Bridges to clinch the 2B Division championship and will now move up to the more competitive 2A Division for the 2021-22 season.
Mizner team captain Tara Artel joked “2B or not 2B?” She led the team with a 12-2 record. “What an amazing year we have had. Between the hardworking, dedicated ladies on the team and our amazing coaches, we all came together for not one, but two winning mini-seasons,” she said.
“This was such a special group of women who all supported each other, both on and off the court, which definitely helped lead to our success,” Artel said. “So onward and upward we go.”
“I am looking forward to another great season with a great group of women,” said team co-captain Missy Gache, who fashioned a 7-4 record this season. “2A here we come.”
Mizner Country Club’s Director of Tennis Vernon Gettone Jr. said the women had a tremendous year.
“With the season being a unique one, due to COVID, it was separated into two mini-seasons,” Gettone said. “Mizner clinched the first win in the last match of the first mini-season and was also honored with the Sportsmanship award.
“The ladies went into the second mini-season with a lot of confidence, and their level of play elevated,” he said. “With the momentum and a higher level of play, the team won the second mini-season by 21 points. Their success in both moves the team up one division to Division 2A. I am so proud of this team for not only being great players but showing great camaraderie.”
