Most People Will Dislike This Denim Trend, But Ready or Not, It’s Taking Over

Another seasonanother denim trend to enter the scene. As you can probably tell, we’re big fans of denim and all of its variations around these parts, so when we get wind of a new favorite making the rounds, we won’t hesitate to see what it’s all about. This time, colored denim is stepping into the spotlight, showing up across our favorite go-to brands such as Zara, Stella McCartney, and Etro. Arguably, the trend really jump-started after Chanel’s S/S 21 runway show, where one look showcased a pair of high-waisted pink jeans styled against an elegant cropped cape. It felt true to Chanel Creative Director Virginie Viard’s “dressed-down meets formal princess” aesthetic and gave us a dose of styling inspiration in the process.

You may already own a few pairs of khaki or dusk-colored jeans in soft, neutral tones, but what sets this trend apart is its louder approach to color—we’re talking ultra-pigmented shades, with hot pink, kelly green, and lilac among them. Pulling off something like this isn’t for the faint of heart, but if you’re ready to jump into the deep end, we put together an array of vibrantly colored jeans that won’t let you down. While you build out your warm-weather shopping list, add a few pairs of these to your lineup. Read ahead to see all of the colorful jeans we’re loving right now and the ways fashion girls are wearing them.

Ever since I laid eyes on these a few months ago, they’ve occupied a cozy spot in my brain.

Here’s the best of both worlds: non-skinny jeans and colorful denim.

The split hem really sets these apart.

Two things: the vibrant color and the price!

These are a great formal-looking alternative to basic jeans.

Alex Mill simply does pants like no other.

Now that you’ve seen that this pair comes with a matching top, the only option is to make it a set, right?

A denim brand to put on your radar.

Pair these with a cool band tee or white racerback tank for an edgy look.

Not fully ready to dive deep into colorful denim? That’s okay. Try an alternate shade of blue as a baby step. It will feel less like a deviation from classic blue denim.

Yellow may seem like a difficult color to style, but the soft pastel tone goes with just about anything.

Mother makes some of my favorite curve-friendly jeans.

Minty fresh.

Switching things up a bit here are MSGM’s fun tie-dye–printed jeans.

This is another cool, colorful print from the Italian label.

How can you not love this saucy shade of pink?

When that ’70s nostalgia hits.

Not a color for the shy and timid, but lovely nonetheless.

We’re always a fan of a waist-defining paper-bag silhouette.

Lilac feels so fresh for the summer season.

If you’re decidedly devoted to this trend, Etro has an amazing selection of bright, colorful pairs.

These pants have a faithful cult following.

How fun are these?
