WEST BOCA — A woman is dead after crashing her motorcycle into a car that ran a red light in West Boca Raton around 1:45 p.m. Sunday, according to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office.
Vanessa Castor, 42, of Parkland, drove through a red light at Southwest 18th Street and Powerline Road, witnesses told investigators from the sheriff’s office.
Kristina Spadavecchia, 27, of Lighthouse Point, was driving her motorcycle northbound on Powerline Road with a few other motorcyclists.
Castor stopped and one motorcyclist avoided colliding with Castor’s Volkswagen SUV, but Spadavecchia struck Castor’s vehicle and landed in the road.
Spadavecchia was taken to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
Castor was stopped at the intersection in an eastbound lane, witnesses told the sheriff’s office. When the right-turn signal turned green she drove straight, through the red solid light. As she drove through the intersection, she saw a group of motorcyclists driving north on Powerline Road and stopped. That’s when Spadavecchia, riding on a Suzuki GSX-R600, hit the passenger side of Castor’s SUV.
Castor could not be reached for comment Sunday.
Vehicular homicide investigations can take weeks or months, and no charges have been filed as of Sunday night, according to a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.
No other information was immediately available.
