Nine rescued after boat capsizes off Palm Beach Inlet

Nine people were rescued after their boat overturned in waters off the Lake Worth Inlet Sunday, thanks to some good Samaritans.

According to the Coast Guard, a call for assistance was radioed in at about 5 p.m. Sunday by a person who spotted a group of people in the water near a capsized boat in the inlet north of Palm Beach.

The inlet is a cut-through on the north end of Palm Beach island, near Palm Beach Shores, that connects the Intracoastal waters of the Lake Worth Lagoon with the Atlantic Ocean.

They were reported to be in good health, the Coast Guard said Sunday.

“It’s important to remember to always wear a life jacket while taking part in activities on the water,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Joel Hernandez, a boatswain’s mates at Coast Guard Station Lake Worth Inlet. “Wearing proper protective gear could save your life.”
