Nine children and three adults ended up in the water after a boat capsized near the Palm Beach Inlet Saturday, and a man died trying to come to their aid, police said.
The 12 people were pulled out of the water by Riviera Beach first responders and taken to Sailfish Marina to be assessed. A private vessel and a tow boat also assisted.
The accident happened on the south side of the jetty by Palm Beach Shores, which is just east of Peanut Island and Riviera Beach.
Riviera Beach police said the man who died was a good Samaritan. They did not name him Sunday or elaborate on the exact circumstances of his death.
The boating accident is being investigated by Florida Fish and Wildlife officials.
