Ordering food for Rosh Hashana? Here are 5 dining specials to mark the occasion

Rosh Hashana is fast approaching — are your plans set?

If you don’t feel like cooking (no judgment), there are South Florida restaurants and markets offering specials to mark the occasion from Sept. 25 to 27.

So, here’s a handy list of some food options in Broward and Palm Beach counties, which you can select for dine-in, pickup or delivery.

Keep in mind that prices often do not include taxes and gratuities.

Ben’s Kosher Deli will offer special dinner packages for pickup or delivery, available by calling 800-344-2367.

The package for six people costs $259.94 and includes gefilte fish, chopped liver, chicken noodle soup and matzo balls. Select one entrée from a choice of three roast chickens with stuffing, turkey breast or brisket.

The package for 10 people is $399.90 and includes 12 mini stuffed cabbages, chicken noodle soup, matzo balls and a choice of chopped liver or gefilte fish. The entrée options include a choice of five roast chickens with stuffing, a whole roast turkey, or sliced brisket with gravy. The accompaniments are cranberry-pineapple compote, coleslaw, carrot tsimmes and round challah.

Both packages have a list of side dishes, from which you select two, including string beans almondine, egg barley and mushrooms, kasha varnishkes, broccoli almondine, sweet potato pudding, noodle pudding and homemade mashed potatoes (or potato pudding with the package for 10 people).

Add dessert to either package such as rugelach for $35.98, a fruit salad bowl for $29.99, honey or sponge cake for $12.99.

Ben’s Kosher Deli plans to close at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25 and reopen on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Doris’ Rosh Hashana holiday meal package is $34.95 per person and includes a choice of beef brisket or turkey breast as an entrée and side dishes of green bean almondine, kugel, matzo ball soup, chopped liver and carrot and potato tsimmes. Not included in the package, but available for add-ons are dessert options such as coconut macaroons, rainbow cookies, honey cake, seven-layer cake, jelly roll, rugelach and sponge cake.

Le Bistro’s Rosh Hashana dinner on Sunday, Sept. 25, and Monday, Sept. 26, is $65 per person and includes four courses.

The choices of appetizer will include chopped liver; chicken, matzoh ball or vegetable soup; or an organic salad.

Entrée options include beef brisket, Everything Bagel with Scottish salmon, or roast duck confit. Each entrée comes with roast potatoes and a farmers’ market vegetable medley.

All TooJay’s Deli restaurants will have a brisket platter ($29.49 per person), baked salmon with dill sauce ($29.99 per person), herb-roasted half chicken ($26.99 per person) or roasted stuffed chicken breast ($27.99 per person).

Meals come with a glass of kosher wine (not available for takeout), matzo ball soup, gefilte fish or chopped liver, mini potato pancakes, carrot tsimmes, coffee or tea, and a choice of dessert (fruit salad; honey, almond or sponge cake; macaroons as well as mini black-and-white cookies).

Rosh Hashana catering orders must be placed by Wednesday, Sept. 21. Dine-in reservations are recommended.

Chef Rick Mace is smoking certified Angus beef prime brisket over a hardwood pit fire of oak and hickory for pickup. After the briskets have been chilled, he will slice and then dress them with a sweet-and-sour tomato sauce (braising vegetables caramelized and blended with honey, tomato and aromatics). Then just heat and serve (about 30 minutes in the oven). A half brisket, about 3 pounds, is $95. A whole brisket, about 6 pounds, is $180. Pickup is Sunday, Sept. 25, between 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
