The seventh annual Beach Boot Camp with the United States Marines and Toys for Tots at the Spanish River beach in Boca Raton had a record number of participants and a bundle of unwrapped toys.

The boot camp was led by the US Marine Corps 4th Anglico Unit of West Palm Beach to benefit Toys for Tots. In addition to collecting toys, it’s an hour of an intense 10-station workout/boot camp led by the US Marines then ending with a tug-a-war contest for bragging rights.

Coordinator Deborah Rhodes Van Buskirk said the event has become one of the largest Toys for Tots collection events in Palm Beach County.

“The Rhodes Group of Raymond James is proud and honored to continue to sponsor for the seventh year this community tradition of boot camp on the beach led by 4th Anglico of West Palm Beach Unit of USMC,” she said. “We are able to collect over 200 toys for families throughout Palm Beach County as well as have a unique workout experience exclusively led by the Marine Corps.”

It’s a free community event and the only requirement is that the participants bring an unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots. Van Buskirk sponsors and coordinates the event through the Rhodes Group of Raymond James and she gives each of the participants an “I survived” T-shirt.

The 75 attendees filled up 5 1/2 large white Toys for Tots boxes with toys.
