The Park Vista Community High School competitive cheerleading team delivered a memorable performance to capture another coveted title.

Park Vista won its third consecutive state championship in the Class 2A co-ed medium division on Feb. 1 in Gainesville.

Park Vista earned first place and won the state title with a score of 84.30. The Cobras competitive cheerleading team made school history as the only program to win three straight state titles. The Cobras prepared and worked on their routine and choreography in practice and continued to perform at a high level in front of judges in multiple categories, including tumbling.

Park Vista enjoyed success against local schools before regionals, including head-to-head competitions with Forest Hill, Olympic Heights and West Boca. The Cobras also captured first place in regionals at Coral Glades High School in Coral Springs.

Park Vista competitive cheerleading coach Patti Gailey said it’s a close group of teammates. The Cobras had twin brothers Jake and Evan Kirshner as well as twin sisters Alexis and Brianna Hurley on the championship squad.

“We have been able to build a team that is consistent,” Gailey said. “When our seniors graduate, we have a talented group of kids still here and keep it going. We are super excited and really wanted our third state title.”

The Cobras had several team members grow up competing with local all-star competitive cheerleading programs, including Cheer Florida and Flip City. Gailey also serves as a coach with the Wellington Cougars cheerleading program.

Ashley Urso serves as the Park Vista cheerleading sideline coach. She also assists Gailey with the competitive team. The Cobras group is active at football and basketball games as well as at community events, including assisting students at Woodlands Middle School. Urso, who is a Park Vista graduate, was a former cheerleader with the Cobras.

“It’s a great feeling to give back as a coach and for the school to win these state titles,” Urso said.
