PBSO: Man kills himself after shooting at deputies

A traffic stop by Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputies Friday afternoon ended with authorities and a suspect firing guns at each other before the man shot himself, the sheriff’s office said.

PBSO Chief Deputy Frank DeMario told reporters Friday that shortly before 4 p.m., tactical agents were surveilling a man who was a suspect in a homicide case. The deputies had probable cause to stop the man for drugs, DeMario said.

Once deputies pulled the man over, he jumped out of the Uber he was in and began to fire a gun at the deputies, DeMario said. They followed the man up to a nearby building and saw spots of blood on the first floor, thinking the man was injured.

DeMario said when deputies arrived on the building’s second floor, the man had died by suicide.

The man has been identified but the sheriff’s office has yet to release his name.
