Trey Rainey made the most of his dozen carries as he helped the visiting Boca Raton Bobcats to an easy win over crosstown rival West Boca Raton in the District 13-8A opener for both teams.

The senior running back carried 12 times for 205 yards and five touchdowns in a 63-0 thrashing of the Bulls.

“Our team played very well,” Boca Raton coach David Angell said. “I believe we certainly improved in a lot of areas. Defensively we tackled better and we aligned to stuff a little better. Offensively, we really established a ground game, but there is always room for improvement.

“We still didn’t defeat blocks very well, we made some poor decisions on offense at times, and we didn’t execute everything we needed to on special teams,” Angell said, “but all in all, I saw a lot of improvement.”

He said getting the district win was most important.

“This was a district game, so we’re certainly excited to be 1-0 in our district,” Angell said. “But we realize that all of our goals are still in front of us. We need to continue to focus on us and get better each day. Our motto is to go 1-0 every day. We need to remove the opponent from the equation and continue to focus on what we can do to be a complete team.”
