St. Andrew’s senior Ellie Tymorek closed out a stellar career with the Scots as she won the Class 2A state championship in the 3,200-meter run (11:00.90) at the Hodges Stadium at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

The Dartmouth University commit was a team captain for track this season and also placed fifth in the 1,600 (5:10.07). She is the Scots school record holder in both the 1,600 (5:09.78) and 3,200-meter runs (10:54.94). She also fashioned an 800-meter dash (2:29.06).

Tymorek, who was the Sun Sentinel Palm Beach County girls’ co-runner of the year after an outstanding cross country season in which she also won a state title, said it was “so cool” to end her career the way she did.

“It was definitely one of my goals for a long time to have a really good 3,200 performance,” she said. “To be able to get the win at states was so exciting both for me and my coach, especially after such a long season and a lot of hard work.

“I am most proud of winning the Class 2A Girls 3,200-meter race at the FHSAA State Championships as well as setting new personal school records and personal bests in both the 3,200-meter and 1,600-meter runs,” Tymorek said. “My career highlight would probably be breaking 11 minutes for the first time (10:57) for second place at the Regional meet as a sophomore in addition to winning the 3200m Class 2A State Championship.”

Tymorek, 18, of Delray Beach, said it was a challenge to endure the season. She said she took a little time off after the cross country season and added that her back “didn’t always cooperate.”

“It was very much a grind to be able to take care of all aspects of my running, with my health and everything,” she said. “It was the hardest training I have ever done and I also focused on recovery. The progression isn’t linear and it was definitely hard work coming back from cross country.

“There were ups and downs, but I really enjoyed every minute of training,” Tymorek said. “I enjoyed every single part of the process and I think that showed through to the end and culminated in an exciting finish.”
