This country club mansion isn’t for the minimalist

There are many houses in South Florida that have a minimalistic design, with clean lines, neutral colors and a contemporary feel. “Le Sumi,” an 11,568-square-foot mansion in Boca Raton’s St. Andrews Country Club, is described by its listing agents as “maximalist modern.”

“There is vibrant color everywhere,” said John Poletto, a broker-associate with One Sotheby’s International Realty in Boca Raton, who shares the listing with colleague Mark Nestler. “The front of the house even has LED lighting on the entrance steps, and the color can be changed at any time.”

The two-story house, which has four bedrooms and seven baths, was built in 2020 on a .43-acre golf course lot at 7170 Ayrshire Lane. It was originally listed in February for $12.95 million, but reduced last month by $1.45 million, to $11.5 million.

“It shows the owners’ interest in getting it sold,” Poletto said. “They could have waited and not done a price adjustment, but they want to take advantage of the fact that they feel it’s a good market and they want to get the house sold. Could they wait and get their price? Yes, I believe they can.”

Designed by Delray Beach architect Randall Stofft, the South African-inspired estate features dramatic architectural curves, circles and soaring ceilings, as well as vibrant colors from interior wall coverings, window treatments and lighting.

It was built around a 40-foot-tall Ylang Ylang tree, known for its fragrant blossoms.

Features of the home include Lumen start home technology in every room, a spiral staircase, an elevator, a 12-foot solid brass front door, an air-conditioned garage, stainless steel and glass verandas, a media room and adjacent his-and-her offices divided by a glass barn door.

Outside there are covered patios, a summer kitchen and a heated color-changing swimming pool with a stainless-steel orb-like structure that lights up in different colors.

St. Andrews is a prestigious country club, with two championship golf courses, full-service spa, fitness center, tennis and a 125,000-square-foot clubhouse with five dining venues. There are also three pools and a playground.

The current owners purchased the property in January 2017 for $1.2 million, tore down the previous house and custom-built the estate. Poletto said they are selling in order to downsize.
