The 2021 TimberTech Championship is currently accepting volunteer applications for the upcoming tournament slated for Nov. 1-7.

For the 15th year in a row, the PGA Champions Tour event will be hosted by The Old Course at Broken Sound in Boca Raton.

“It takes hundreds of volunteers to make the TimberTech Championship successful,” said Eddie Carbone, tournament director for the TimberTech Championship. “Our volunteers, year after year, are so dedicated to helping us put on a first-class event that showcases the Palm Beaches to the world.”

It takes over 600 volunteers in 22 different volunteer committees to successfully host the TimberTech Championship, which annually brings the legends of golf to Boca Raton for this second event in the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. Committees ranging from player transportation to walking scorer and marshals to corporate hospitality.

A new volunteer committee this year will be the Full-Circle Green Team. These volunteers are in charge of the recycling at the concessions standings and other various places on course.

The Full-Circle Green Team volunteers will work to improve education and awareness about recycling, decrease recycling contamination, and reduce sorting efforts needed at the back-of-house by assisting guests at disposal stations.

In addition, they will be greeting individuals at the front gate to collect plastic bags for an AZEK Incentive to make sustainable materials out of the collected plastic bags.

“We are also excited to debut our Full-Circle Green Team volunteers who will assist our patrons with recycling when onsite,” Carbone said.

The PGA Tour Champions composes golfers age 50 and older, including 34 members of the World Golf Hall of Fame. Boca Raton resident and the tournament’s lone two-time champion Bernhard Langer is among the golfers planning to play.

“I think I have played in it every year,” he said. “It is a home game and I have been there every year I have been eligible. It is extremely special for me. There is nothing like it. All of my family lives in Boca and many of my friends, either from church, my bible study group, my golfing buddies, or the club I live in Woodfield Country Club. Just living there for over 30 years, you have a large number of friends. They are all excited about coming out and cheering me on.”

The fee to volunteer is $65 and in return, each volunteer receives perks including a TimberTech Championship golf shirt, hat or visor, volunteer badge, four any-day grounds passes, parking pass, lunch on the days they work, and access to the Volunteer Party.

In addition, volunteers who work three shifts will be eligible to play a round of golf during one of the scheduled Volunteer Golf days.

Opportunities also exist for junior volunteers in grades 6-12. All junior volunteers receive an official tournament T-shirt, headgear, meals, parking and volunteer badge. Plus, as a nonprofit charity, volunteer hours spent at the TimberTech Championship are eligible for service organizations like National Honor Society or scouts.
