What’s open or closed in South Florida for New Year’s Day

Here’s what will be open and closed in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties for New Year’s Day 2022.

  • State offices will be closed on Dec. 30, Dec. 31, and Jan. 1, 2022.
  • Federal offices and most banks will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2022.
  • Post offices will have regular mail delivery Dec. 31 and there will be no regular mail delivery Jan. 1, 2022.
  • Stock Markets: NYSE and Nasdaq will be closed, and Bond Markets will close at 2 p.m. on Dec. 31.
  • Tri-Rail will operate a weekend schedule Jan. 1, 2022. To find train schedules, call Tri-Rail customer service at 800-874-7245 or visit tri-rail.com

  • Public schools will be closed until Jan. 3, 2022, as well as most colleges and universities.
  • The 17th Judicial and Circuit and County Courts and the Administrative Office of the Courts will be closed Dec. 31.
  • All county offices will be closed Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2022.
  • Broward County Animal Care and Adoption Center will be closed Dec. 31. The Adoption Center will be open Jan. 1, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. In the event of animal attack or bite, call 911. For lost or found cats or dogs, call 954-359-1313, ext. 9273.
  • The Broward County Landfill at 7101 SW 205th Ave., Fort Lauderdale, will be open Dec. 31 and closed Jan. 1, 2022.
  • Florida Department of Health in Broward County will be closed Dec. 30, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2022.
  • Regular garbage, bulk, or recycling collections will take place Jan. 1, 2022. Residents of all other Broward municipalities should contact their city or hauler directly for scheduling information.
  • The county library system will be closed Jan. 1, 2022.
  • Broward County neighborhood open-space parks, and natural areas will be open.
  • Broward County Transit will operate a weekday bus schedule Dec. 31 and a Sunday-holiday service schedule Jan. 1, 2022. 954-357-8400 (TTY 954-357-8302) or visit broward.org/bc.

  • There will be regular trash pick-up in unincorporated Palm Beach County.

  • The county library system will be closed Dec 31 and Jan. 1, 2022.
  • Neighborhood open-space parks and natural areas will be open.
  • Palm Tran: Weekday bus service will occur on Dec. 31, and administrative offices will be closed. On Jan. 1, 2022, bus service will operate on a Sunday schedule and administrative offices are closed. palmtran.org 561-841-4287.
