The Club at Boynton Beach, 623 S. Federal Highway, recently spiced up its activities room with the help of three Wynwood graffiti artists.
Filled with bright colors and unique shapes, the freshly spray-painted custom murals have made an immediate impact on the activities room, bringing a newfound life to the living area.

The Club at Boynton Beach partnered with Galera Collective’s Glayson LeRoy who donated his team’s resources and efforts to have two custom murals painted.

“We were given a room and it was kind of just a blank canvas. It was boring,” said Nancy Venezia, The Club at Boynton Beach’s Leisure Services director. “We went in there and the walls were tan. The residents would fall asleep in the room. I decided that I was going to do something to this room. To make it positive, cheerful, and the residents would be awake and excited.”
Before getting in contact with LeRoy, Venezia met with other artists but was unsuccessful in finding the right individual or team for the job.

“These murals can be extremely expensive and we are obviously on a budget,” Venezia said. “I interviewed several artists and they were not willing to do it under like $1,200. One of my resident’s family members put me in touch with Glayson LeRoy. He’s from Galera Collective… He met with me and he offered to do this for just the price of the paint. Two of his artists agreed to do these murals for free. It was really amazing.”

Venezia, who is also an artist in addition to working at The Club of Boynton Beach, teamed with LeRoy on the design, hoping to highlight creativity in the mural.
“What we wanted in that room is what you would call interpretive art. I didn’t want a picture,” she said. “A picture is something you look at once and it’s the same next time. I wanted something that when you looked at this you had to use your imagination.”
